Milwaukee Alarm Company would like to remind you about some fire safety tips for your home.
Please remember that when you are installing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors you should place them on every floor of your home, and near any bedroom if possible. It is very important to test your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors on a regular basis. We recommend once a month you test these devices, and replace the batteries when needed.
You should place your fire extinguishers on every floor of your home as well, with close proximity to your front, back, and side doors. Fire extinguishers should also be placed in your garage, kitchen, and any area where a fire could potential begin. Make sure you look at the gauge on your fire extinguisher frequently, and if it says “empty” or is in the red area, it should be replaced. All fire extinguishers should be replaced after 12 years.
It also very important to develop some sort of fire escape plan for your household. If you don’t currently have a plan in place, we recommend that you create one that works for all members of your family. Having a plan in place helps alleviate some of the panic that naturally sets in when a fire occurs.
These tips are simple and easy, but ultimately can prevent a tragedy and save lives.
